Dessert Plates
Dessert Plates with a Story to Tell
Some plates are simply used to serve dessert. Others become favourite everyday objects chosen almost out of affection. At Grandchose, I like to create dessert plates that spark a smile, bring back a memory, or celebrate a passion.
Each design is drawn by hand in my workshop in Provence, using the spontaneous blue line that has become the signature of the CHILL collection. Bicycles, pétanque, palm trees, dachshunds, seashells or Mont Ventoux… these illustrations act as little everyday reminders of the things we love. Simple objects that often become surprisingly meaningful over time.
These dessert plates are designed to be used every day, but also to become small companions at the table — the plate you reach for with your morning coffee, a shared dessert, or a quiet breakfast. Pieces that bring a little personality and joy to ordinary moments.

Dessert Plates That Stand Apart from Traditional Tableware

Simple Illustrations That Become Meaningful
In this collection, illustration takes centre stage. Each dessert plate features a deliberately simple motif: a bicycle, a pétanque ball, a palm tree, a boat, a dachshund or a seashell.
This simplicity is important to me. I am not trying to create heavily decorated plates in the traditional sense. Instead, each illustration acts as a subtle detail — something you notice little by little and eventually begin to associate with a memory, a place, a passion or a person.
Some designs evoke seaside holidays and long summer days by the water. Others celebrate a love of cycling, the roads of Mont Ventoux or leisurely games of pétanque beneath the plane trees of Provence. The OSCAR dachshund plates, meanwhile, speak immediately to dog lovers.
It is this emotional connection that transforms these everyday objects into pieces people genuinely care about and enjoy bringing to the table again and again.

Handmade Dessert Plates Between Useful Object and Everyday Talisman
I strongly believe in everyday objects that gradually become familiar companions. A favourite plate for afternoon treats. The one you always choose for your coffee break. The one you save for guests or bring out when you want to make an ordinary moment feel special.
These dessert plates work very much in that way.
Their compact size makes them remarkably versatile: desserts, pastries, light starters, breakfast toast or an impromptu aperitif. Beyond their practical use, they bring a cheerful and light-hearted presence to the table.
Some people even see them as small lucky charms. A bicycle plate to think about future rides. A palm tree plate to keep a holiday spirit alive. A Ventoux plate as a reminder of a climb or a stay in Provence.
I love the idea that a simple object can carry something more than its function.

An Original Gift Idea for Enthusiasts and Collectors
Dessert plates are often chosen as thoughtful gifts. Their size makes them easy to offer, while their distinctive designs feel personal enough to create a genuine surprise.
Within this collection, everyone can find a motif that resonates with them:
- Bicycles for cycling enthusiasts
- Pétanque for lovers of the South of France
- Dachshunds for dog lovers
- Mont Ventoux for cyclists, hikers and Provence enthusiasts
- Seashells, palm trees and boats for those who dream of the seaside and summer holidays
Many customers start with a single plate and later return to add new designs to their collection. The different motifs work beautifully together thanks to their understated palette and the hand-drawn blue line that ties the entire collection together.
The CHILL Ventoux plate set was created with this idea in mind: bringing several pieces together around a shared passion while maintaining a harmonious and cohesive table setting.

A Simple and Recognisable Graphic Style
All illustrations are drawn by hand directly onto the clay. The lines remain intentionally free and slightly irregular, creating the sketch-like quality that gives movement and character to each design.
This hand-drawn aesthetic is an essential part of the Grandchose identity. It brings a sense of warmth and authenticity that feels far more alive than a perfectly uniform industrial print.
The contrast between the light stoneware background and the blue illustration creates a clean and timeless look that blends easily into a variety of interiors. These dessert plates work just as well on a minimalist table as they do in a Mediterranean-inspired home or a coastal setting.
They always retain the same balance of simplicity, softness and understated playfulness that defines the collection.
