Handmade stoneware garlic graters inspired by Provence
The stoneware garlic grater is a simple yet highly effective kitchen tool, deeply rooted in Provençal culinary traditions. Compact, durable, and easy to use, it allows you to prepare fresh garlic quickly while preserving all of its flavour and aroma.
This collection brings together my handmade stoneware garlic graters, crafted in Provence and inspired by traditional ceramic garlic plates used throughout southern France.
A durable kitchen tool designed for everyday use
Unlike mass-produced kitchen gadgets, a stoneware garlic grater is designed to last. High-fired stoneware naturally provides an ideal grating surface without blades, moving parts, or components that wear out over time.
It is a practical object that quickly becomes part of everyday cooking and finds its place naturally on a kitchen countertop or dining table.
Handcrafted with care
Each garlic grater is individually handmade in my pottery workshop, from shaping to decoration. Their simple forms are designed for comfortable handling, while hand-drawn illustrations and painted details bring personality to every piece.
Whether decorated with graphic patterns, brush-painted lines, or subtle hand-drawn motifs, each model remains unique while fitting beautifully alongside everyday tableware.
Simple, practical, and intuitive
These ceramic garlic graters are designed to make everyday cooking easier. Their shape provides stability while grating, and the textured surface quickly transforms garlic cloves into a fine paste ideal for sauces, dressings, marinades, and Mediterranean recipes.
Every detail is designed to support simple cooking habits without unnecessary complexity.
How to use a ceramic garlic grater
Using a ceramic garlic grater is remarkably easy.
- Moisten the surface: Add a drop of water or olive oil before grating. This helps prevent ingredients from sticking to the ceramic surface.
- Grate in circular motions: Rub the garlic clove against the textured centre using gentle circular movements. Within seconds, you’ll obtain a smooth and flavourful garlic paste.
- Use it for more than garlic: Fresh ginger, turmeric, citrus zest, nutmeg, chocolate, and even ripe tomatoes can be prepared using the same tool.
- Easy cleaning: Simply rinse under water after use or place it directly in the dishwasher. High-fired stoneware is non-porous, durable, and does not retain odours or flavours.
Versatile and easy to maintain
Although designed primarily for garlic, these ceramic graters are wonderfully versatile. They can also be used for ginger, turmeric, citrus fruits, spices, and many other ingredients.
The glazed stoneware surface remains easy to clean while preserving its appearance over years of use.
Handmade in Provence
Each garlic grater is produced in small batches in my workshop in Provence, France. This artisanal approach allows me to focus on quality, durability, and attention to detail at every stage of the making process.
Rather than accumulating kitchen gadgets, a handmade garlic grater encourages a more thoughtful approach to cooking: fewer tools, carefully chosen, beautifully made, and built to last.
